Health Sector: Organisation and Leadership Development
Tricordant has considerable experience of whole system organisation and leadership development. This includes facilitation of large and small groups, setting up and running action learning sets, board development events, team and individual coaching, culture change, and leadership development programmes. One of our associates, Tom Robson, has particular expertise in team role and development having worked closely with Meredith Belbin.
The understanding which Tricordant brings to organisations results in some challenging insights about leadership.
- Leadership needs to be seen as an enabling function – creating the structures and conditions which allow individuals and teams to improve their working practice and environment.
- Leaders need to develop understanding of their own inherent leadership traits and the relational impact that they have on others.
- Leaders are role models, through their attitudes and behaviour, for the organisational culture. Whether they intend to or not they will, often in very subtle ways, influence the attitudes and behaviours of others.
- Everyone needs to be encouraged to develop leadership type behaviours – everyone has a responsibility for their contribution to the organisation and for the effective delivery of the outcomes they and their team are responsible for.
- Leaders need to work across all domains of the Tricord, representing and communicating the Identity of the organisation, refining and clarifying Concept, enabling and resourcing appropriate Embodiment, and modelling and guiding Inspiration.
An important issue in the field of healthcare OD is the centrality of humanity and compassion. We have written on this subject – see below- and support the work of colleagues in this area, particularly Dr Robin Youngson. See www.compassioninhealthcare.org
