Leading Transformation for Integrated Care

The Challenge

Working in partnership with the East of England Leadership Academy, Tricordant developed the “Leading Transformation for Integrated Care” series from November 2022 to April 2023. Derived from experiences in various Integrated Care Systems (ICS) across England, the challenge was to explore partnership dynamics across teams and organisations. The goal was to clarify the essence of collaboration and its implications for leaders operating within this complex context.

Our Approach

The “Leading Transformation for Integrated Care” series was a comprehensive set of virtual workshops conducted by Tricordant from November 2022 to April 2023.

These sessions were meticulously designed in collaboration with local representatives and insights taken from various Integrated Care Systems across England. The aim was to equip participants with the necessary skills and mindset to navigate leadership roles within complex systems.

The program included virtual bitesize sessions co-designed with the NHS England Leadership Academy. These sessions catered to over 2,000 professionals from social care, health, and the VCSE sector, covering diverse topics critical to system leadership.

Additionally, recognising operational pressures faced by many, Tricordant also developed a series of online learning modules hosted on the Leadership Learning Zone (LLZ) website. These modules offered session recordings, supporting resources, and reflective learning questions, to facilitate broader access to the content.

The Results

The program garnered significant traction, with over 4,000 participants registering for the sessions. Feedback from participants revealed key takeaways, influences on leadership approaches, and crucial leadership qualities needed within the context of integrated care and systems working.

Participants had insights on refocusing their purpose, strengthening relationships, and acknowledging that leadership starts with oneself. They highlighted the significance of shared purpose, listening, and leveraging communities for genuine change.

The reflections notably influenced leadership approaches, emphasising qualities like compassion, authenticity, forward-thinking, courage, patient-focus, diversity, and collaboration among others.

Overall, the themes extracted from the participant feedback aligned seamlessly with the session objectives. They underscored the urgent need for a paradigm shift in mindset, skills, and behaviours to create a collaborative approach within Integrated Care Systems. Working together we created a systemic culture, that nurtured innovative organisational development and transformation, resulting in improved outcomes for service users. This is reflected in the following comment we received:-

Everyone is equal when collaborating, we need to leave egos at the door and focus on the task. Transformation of services will only happen with the sign up of all parties, collaboration will be key.
