Service Demand and Complexity: Demand for services such as temporary accommodation, special educational needs, and adult social care has grown significantly, with rising costs and complexity.
Environmental Concerns: Commitments to net-zero policies clash with relaxed planning rules, with Councils needing to balance economic growth with environmental sustainability.
Devolution and Local Empowerment: The English Devolution White Paper outlines the opportunity of devolving powers to local authorities to drive economic growth and improve public services. This will require skilful partnership management, and careful organisational change, with the challenge and opportunity for significant service and organisation change.
