Unlocking Transformative Healthcare Impact by Orchestrating Strategic Alignment

The Challenge:

Across the diverse communities of Wessex, healthcare leaders recognized the immense potential of harnessing the region’s research and innovation capabilities to drive improvements in health and care. However, the pathway from discovery to deployment was fragmented, with missed opportunities to connect key assets and stakeholders. Key leaders in education and research recognised the opportunity to align partners across Wessex around a shared vision and ignite collaborative action.

Our Approach:

Tricordant and our partner Andrew Liles of Consilium, worked shoulder-to-shoulder with a small steering group of key local leaders, to support the formation of Wessex Health Partners (WHP), a pioneering partnership fostering trusted collaboration between Universities, NHS organisations, and key research and innovation networks across the region.

Through a series of engaging stakeholder workshops and interviews, we co-developed WHP’s compelling purpose: facilitating lasting success in health and care through innovation, research, and education. We crystallised this vision into a robust strategic framework, vividly illustrating WHP’s transformative potential.

Deploying our proven methodologies for navigating complex stakeholder landscapes, we co-designed a lean and effective governance model for WHP. This empowered all partners with an equal voice, while catalysing collaborative innovation. We also equipped WHP with an agile resourcing strategy, ensuring it could flexibly deliver mission-critical outcomes as opportunities emerged.

The Results

Informed by Tricordant’s strategic guidance, key partners committed to WHP in 2023 and it was officially launched in April 2024, marking a pivotal shift in Wessex’s healthcare innovation landscape.

With a resilient foundation in place, WHP is now:

• Proactively aligning research and innovation with Wessex’s most pressing health and care priorities, orchestrating powerful synergies between diverse research assets and frontline challenges.
• Amplifying collective impact by attracting increased funding into the region through collaborative bidding. WHP is set to match the impressive 1:8 return on investment seen in similar partnerships, turning membership fees into a magnet for innovation funding.
• Accelerating the adoption of proven innovations at-scale across Wessex. By bridging stakeholders across the discovery-to-deployment pathway, WHP is poised to deliver a step-change in the pace and breadth of innovation adoption, unlocking transformative impacts for patients and populations.
• Pioneering a world-class workforce equipped to discover, develop, and deploy cutting-edge solutions. WHP is weaving a rich tapestry of interdisciplinary education and training opportunities, nurturing the next generation of boundary-spanning innovation leaders.

Energised with a unified sense of purpose, Wessex Health Partners continues to gain momentum, unlocking the region’s collective potential to drive evidence-based change in healthcare. WHP is well placed to emerge as a nationally recognised beacon of excellence in embedding research and innovation for transformative system-wide impact.
