Tricordant’s Commitment to NetZero
As a BCorporation, Tricordant is committed to reducing carbon emissions in all practical ways and we have signed the BCorp Climate Pledge to achieve net zero by 2030.
As a consultancy we are not a manufacturer, nor do we have warehousing, distribution or even a central office. Therefore, our opportunities for significant environmental savings are minimal because of our low emissions rate. We seek to do everything we can to reduce emissions and go beyond a net-zero commitment. Indeed through positive offsetting via a specialised charity we can currently claim to not only be net zero but climate positive back to our founding in 2005.
Prior to the Covid pandemic, commuting was a major feature of our work since the expectation of our clients was to work face-to-face. However, the Tricordant team has transitioned to home working and now most of our work is done virtually. All vehicles leased or owned by the company are now fully electric and these contribute to most of our car travel. Wherever possible and realistic, we use public transport and make very few plane journeys during the year. We measure and track all our travel emissions and we also use standard factors for home working emissions. As a growing business, who are employing more staff, we are working to ensure our emissions per employee reduce and that is one of our annual targets.
Our methodology to measure emissions
We measure emissions from travel and home working both of which are recorded in our back office computer system. For staff to claim travel expenses it is essential to enter a mileage into the system which then calculates the emissions using standard recognised emissions factors.
For home working we again use standard factors and for staff to claim their home working allowance the number of hours worked has to be entered and then the system calculates emissions.
Our system then calculates total emissions for travel and home office and what the appropriate offset amount is to cover this. We work with a specialist charity Climate Stewards for the appropriate offset.
Baseline
Accurate reporting of emissions via our internal computer system started in our 2022-23 financial year, however we have calculated as best as is possible back to our founding in 2005 based on number of staff, type of vehicles and level of travel. We do however use our financial year 2022-23 as our baseline year since this is the first fully recorded year.

Most Recent year 2023 – 24
| Scope 1 | We have no Scope 1 emissions since we do not burn fuel for production and the only vehicles that we own are fully electric. |
| Scope 2 | We have no Scope 2 emissions since we have no company properties. We do however encourage our staff to use green sources of electricity for their home working and domestic uses. |
| Scope 3 | Business travel and home working is the major source of our emissions. In 2023-24 our emissions were: Business travel: 5,855 kg of CO2 Home Office: 5,843 of CO2 Total Carbon Emissions: 11698 kg of CO2 We recognise that these figures are an increase over the prior year due to an increased number of employees combined with an easing of restrictions on working on client sites which we have experienced more of in the last financial year. We continue to offset these emissions, however, a reduction per employee is now our major reduction target. |
Emissions and Carbon Reduction Targets
We are limited due to our type of business in the reductions we can make, however we will:
- Reduce our average journey emissions per employee by 10% pa through use of non fossil fuel transport
- Where we use hotels for overnight stays to select those with better green credentials
- Minimise travel as much as possible through encouraging virtual working
- Continue to use electric vehicles only in our fleet
- Implement a staff salary sacrifice scheme for electric vehicles
- Continue to over-offset through Climate Stewards all our emissions
- Work with our sub-contractors to measure and reduce their emissions
Declaration
The Directors of Tricordant are fully committed to maximising sustainability initiatives to reduce emissions and protect the planet. This is evidenced not just by this declaration but also through our commitment as a BCorporation where in the latest annual assessment our score increased from 80.8 to 117.3.
