Boehringer Ingelheim UK faced a pivotal moment with its emerging product pipeline and the strategic “Pathway to 2035”. The existing supply chain model, needed to evolve into a more agile, customer centrict structure that empowers Supply Chain colleagues, and which supports both human and animal health markets. This transformation required not just structural adjustments but a fundamental shift towards deeper customer intimacy, faster market responsiveness, and being prepared for the integration of advanced technologies such as AI. The challenge was to design a UK Supply Chain organisation that could deliver these ambitions while maintaining operational excellence.
Working collaboratively with BI UK’s Supply Chain leadership and teams, Tricordant developed a bespoke, design-led approach:
Compelling Vision – Through workshops using innovative techniques such as Lego Serious Play and scenario modelling, we co-created a compelling long-term vision for the UK Supply Chain. This included defining design principles and preparing a Digital Twin using the Reconfig platform to simulate future structures and capabilities.
Discovery – We conducted interviews with key stakeholders, analysed market forces and reviewed current structures, roles, and skills. A digital twin of the “As is” organisation was generated to make sense of strengths and weaknesses
Detailed Organisation Design – We developed a detailed “To-Be” structure with clear roles, responsibilities, and explored opportunities to embed AI within individual roles and teams.Alongside this, we produced a plan to implement the short term model and a roadmap including AI to deliver the longer term Compelling vision.
The project delivered tangible outcomes that position BI UK for sustainable success:
A set of recommendations that will support the evolution of the UK Supply Chain organisation into a more agile, customer centrict structure that empowers Supply Chain colleagues.
A roadmap aligned to the “Pathway to 2035,” providing clarity on strategic priorities and organisational evolution including adoption of AI
A short term organisation design, including structure, roles, and skills, enabling agility and improved customer responsiveness
Increased stakeholder engagement and ownership, nurturing the mindset and behaviours needed for change.
Tricordant played a pivotal role in shaping our future UK Supply Chain strategy.
Their expert facilitation, AI-enhanced design tools, and inclusive approach helped us build a clear vision, a practical operating model, and a roadmap for transformation. They challenged our thinking, engaged our teams, and delivered real value—empowering us to move forward with confidence.
